The scare left behind by the ubeji grammar school missing 40 computers and issues that followed online and off-line (lost of trust, enmity, accusations and counter accusations of financial bribing, backbreaking police case, threat to life etc) is one still very fresh in our mind. It will be an act of wickedness and gross act of negligence towards the community and her educational institution if similar part tolled by the supposed contractor of the ubeji 40 missing computer during her days on site is about to be re-candle by another contractor who is presently in the secondary school premises with project at hand.
SOME OF THE SIMILARITIES INCLUDES;
- No sign post to give clear identification of the name and contact address of the contractor handling the project, the agency that awarded the project, the status of the project (renovation or building) and others.
- Professionals are not always on-site. More than 5 times in 3 days I and others reach the site for verification of the above (no1), we are welcomed by mare labourer (mostly bricklayers) from another tribal extraction (middle belt and togolise) who can’t communicate effective on questions asked due to language barriers. All we can extract from them is “engineer dey come”.
We all know how the DESOPADEC ICT project in ubeji community became a waste even though I can’t outrightly identify it in the book “THE ODYSSEY OF WASTE”. How the 40 computers went missing under the care of the contractor and how the contractor became a ghost contractor with no identity or office address. This project will be worst bcus we don’t even know the agency or commission that own the project talk less of the contractor in charge. So, if the contract is abandoned today, there will be no trace of who to ask or where to go for enquires.
